Deep waves infinity cowl

General information:

The following stitches are used:

HDC = half double crochet
Sl St = Slip stitch
Chainless foundation DC (DC = double crochet)
CH = chain

BL hdc = back loop HDC
FL hdc = front loop HDC

An HDC has got three loops to crochet in. Using the loop completely at the front creates a V at the back of your work. Using the loop completely at the back creates a V at the front of your work.

You crochet your cowl in the round. Every round is ended with a slip stitch in the first CH of the last round. Begin every new round with a CH1.

I used two strands of 5mm yarn, combined with a 10 mm crochet hook. For this cowl I used Zerda Alpaca yarn.

You can use any hook or yarn, I wanted this one to be light and chunky so therfor I used a large hook.
Keep your foundation chain as long as the pattern requests, then the infinity cowl will be long enough.

Chainless foundation DC:

Chain 3, yarn over, insert hook into 3rd chain from your hook.
Pull up a loop, (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull hook through only the first loop. (3 loops on hook)
Complete your DC as normal >> yarn over, draw through first two loops, yarn over, draw through remaining loops.

You have made your 1st chainless foundation DC!

Next DC's
Yarn over, insert hook into the loops of last DC

Pattern:
1) Start with the Chainless foundation row. Keep on going untill your chainless foundation has reached a lenght of +/- 1.60m (or +/- 60 inches). Attach the end of your chain to the beginning with a Sl St. Be ware to SlSt in the right chain and not twist your foundation row. For pictures on how to do this, click here.

Your Sl St at the end of every row, always uses both loops of the stitch you Sl St into.

From now on you will only use Back Loops or Front Loops to crochet in.

2) CH1, HDC in same stitch as where you Sl St in, use, back loop only.
HDC around using back loop only, Sl St to 1st CH.

3) CH1, HDC around using front loops only (start into same chain as SlSt), Sl St to 1st CH. (so only use the single front loop)

4) CH1, HDC around using back loops only, Sl St to 1st CH.

repeat row 3 & 4 another 5 times (if you want a bigger cowl, you can reapeat more often)

Last row:

5) CH1, HDC around using the middle loop, this creates a line in your work just as you made at the start.

Fasten off your work using an invisible fasten off stitch. For the tutorial, click here.

Enjoy your cowl.

  1. Thank you for this pattern. Just what was required when my brain wouldn't work and I needed to make a last minute gift. Easy to follow and quick to work up.
